Classical Flute Jugalbandi by the Prasanna Brothers of the Benaras Gharana
Featuring: Rajesh and Ritesh Prasanna
Rajesh Prasanna & Ritesh Prasanna are the latest signatures in the realm of Flute playing in the country. Born & hailing from a renowned family of musicians of Varanasi who have traditionally played & nurtured the Shehnai for over two & half centuries, they have taken to music by inheritance, young in age but imbued with highly matured musical sensibilities. They are the sons of Pandit Rajendra Prasanna, who is one of the greatest Flute & Shehnai players of the country.
They received training from their grandfather Pandit Raghunath Prasanna, who was the first in the Prasanna family to introduce Flute playing in the gharana otherwise known for the Shehnai playing. They were also trained & guided by their uncles Pandit Ravi Shankar Prasanna and Pandit Rakesh Prasanna. It was however under the tutelage of their father Pandit Rajendra Prasanna that they learned the finer skills and artistic intricacies as also the advanced techniques that helped them blossom as concert players of great merit.
Their recitals are methodical with emphasis on Gayaki Ang. Consistency in sur & laya is the hallmark of their playing. They have not only imbibed the subtle nuances of the Benaras Gharana but also present them in a very beautiful way. Rajesh & Ritesh are also at ease with the light classical modes like Thumri, Chaiti, Kajri and Dhun and play them with equal aplomb and telling effects.
Rajesh and Ritesh have won numerous laurels, including the first prize at the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Academy Competition, the title of Surmani by Sur-Singar Samsad, Mumbai, and the Sangeet Sadhak Samman.
