Timeless music over fleeting moments of fameAbhishek Mittal

Every year, young Abhishekh Mittal would look forward to the trip to his cousin's place in Gurugram. From international music to baseball, those trips became the windows to the larger world outside brimming with new experiences and adventures. It's only befitting then, that he found his one true love - the guitar - on one of those trips.

"It was an acoustic guitar and I remember how fascinated I was. I had never even touched one before so playing was far fetched. But, I tried and after a whole night of spending time with it, I finally began to understand it, and soon it was love," recalls the Delhi-based 23-year-old guitarist and composer, who is the front-man of an instrumental band, Submarine in Space that he co-founded.

The Meerut boy's musical journey began at the age of eight, just a year after discovering the stringed instrument, and soon he started his official training. More time and dedication not only bettered his art, but also fueled his passion for music.

"Nothing else would matter to me if I just had my guitar with me and that eventually pushed me to think of it as a career. I found exposure and clarity in college through various musical collaborations and interactions, especially with my college band, Hansraj Projekt," adds Abhishek, who began an earnest pursuit of his career in music after completing the Bachelor of Commerce degree from Hansraj College, Delhi.

In 2015, with the help of a few of his seniors and fellow college-band members, he started Submarine In Space, and released their first album, 'Wavelengths' in 2018.

In a very short span of time, the band has carved out a niche for itself in the Indian rock music arena with several national tours and a few international ones lined up too.

Independently, Abhishek also boasts of an impressive portfolio as a guitarist and hopes to spread more magic through his experimental music. "Good music is that which does not have a shelf-life and instead, is evergreen. I hope to create such timeless music that is not easily forgotten after a few fleeting moments of fame," he observes.

Incidentally, Abhishek is one of the few artists selected to be featured now being featured byat the HCL Digital Concerts platform, and has already performed twice, in November 2018 and February 2020, in collaboration with various artists.

"For young artists, an opportunity to perform at such a prestigious platform is a very big thing. The experience, exposure and feedback, everything is learning, on a whole new level," he adds.

HCL Digital Concerts is a platform meant to identify aspiring musicians and provide them with opportunities to showcase their talent throughon digital as well as physical music concerts.
