Ramprapanna Bhattacharya is a brilliant sitar player and is also deft at navigating through two very different realms — the musical world and the corporate world. Based in Hyderabad, he also works in a leading software company.
"I have been working in the corporate setup for many years now and I love it. But my relationship with music is different. It is the food for my soul and I am the happiest when I'm playing. So over the years, I always made sure never to let it slip and continued practicing diligently, no matter what," he adds.
What started off as a hobby at the age of 6, soon became a passion and a way of life under the guidance of his sitarist father.
"Hindustani Classical music has deep emotional undercurrents. Its purity attracted me since I was a child," says Ramprapanna who also gives sitar lessons.
For the past few years, keeping the essence of classical music alive has been a key focus for Ramprapanna, who is working toward passing on his musical legacy to his students.
"There are many with talent but there is a lack of opportunities. Also, the lack of transparency and a sense of nepotism in the world of classical music often deters many talented individuals from shining," he observes.
The ardent sitar player found some success in his endeavours when he heard about a unique platform—HCL Digital Concerts. According to Ramprapanna, these concerts not only disrupt the chain of nepotism associated with opportunities but also offer a fair, transparent, one-of-a-kind platform to showcase talents.
